Aleks Jugueta
A Plastic Apocalypse
72 in x 24 in x 10 in, Plastic waste, 2021
In her thesis, Aleks Jugueta explores the ways of how plastic waste can be the principal material to create a work that points to the irremovable impacts of excessive plastic waste. It also explores the different visual symbolisms of still-life vanitas to articulate the overconsumption tendencies of humanity. Moreover, she alludes to an imminent apocalypse by contextualising it to destruction caused by the negative effects of excessive plastic waste. By creating a massive work made up of plastic waste alone, she hopes to enlighten the audiences and have them change their overconsumption habits.
