This thesis is the artist’s use of the diorama as an examination of her own quarter-life crisis, using the art of sculpture and combining both literal and metaphorical expressions of the four phases of her life: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age. The discoidal shape of the diorama and its spinning aspect combines the philosophies “eternal recurrence” from Nietsche and the Filipino belief, “gulong ng palad”. The diorama of the artist’s four life phases combine imagery of her human self with the four life stages of the moth, as author Virginia Woolf describes the insect as a reminder of human life.

Through the journey of creating this sculptural work, the artist is able to probe into her current life crisis on a deeper level, and hopes to bring awareness of the existence of the quarter-life crisis, especially in modern times where it has become a phenomenon.
