GOD IS A WOMAN: Reinforcing the Female Ideal in Religious Art
15 in x 19 in to 24 in x 34 “ prints, Xerography Collaging, 2021
Rih Justo’s thesis reimagines how religious images portray women and its effects on the societal norms that enforce the female stereotypes we have today. This is explored through the process of xerography combined with collaging. The thesis grew from the observations made in her developmental years in catholic school; the bold display of male dominated religious imagery throughout her childhood has blossomed into a curiosity towards its patriarchal effects on women. The placement of women in these images communicate the lack of real female representation in religion.
