Niccolo Inocencio
Shifting Depths
16”x16”x8” (Whole), 6”x7.5” (Each painting), Wood, Acrylic paint, 2021
Niccolo Inocencio’s thesis is a series of four Optical Art paintings that are mechanically designed to be able to change the depths of their parts through the interaction of the viewers, making the paintings both modular and interactive. The paintings alone are designed to fool the eyes of the viewers by using illusions, and adding real depth to them allows the chance for a new way of interaction between artwork and viewer. The thesis in its entirety explores the effects of real depth on the illusionistic depths of the paintings as well as on the advancing and receding of different color temperatures and saturations.
